History
of Teddy Bear

The
history of teddy bear starts from the early years of the 20th century when the
American president Theodor Roosevelt went hunting in the forests of
Mississippi. He was accompanied by an assistant Holt Collier. Here Collier
caught a wounded bear and tied it with a tree. After that, he sought permission
from the president to kill the bear. But after seeing the wounded bear the
president filled with pity and decided against killing the bear.

This
act of kindness got published by a leading newspaper The Washington Post. The
newspaper published a picture related to it created by Clifford K. Berryman.

Inspired
by this picture, a businessmen Morris Michtom along with his wife designed a
toy like a baby bear and named it Teddy as Teddy was the nickname of Roosevelt.
It is how Teddy came into existence.
